Most people think that getting your documents notarized is just a hassle, but it serves an important function.

From 2014 to 2017 alone, an average of 2.8 million complaints were made from people who fell victim to fraudulent crimes – and notaries have an important role in lowering that figure.

So if you need a notary, it pays to know where you can find the best – and you’ve come to the right place. Here at Superior Notary Service, we help people like you find a Michigan notary public with ease.

Why do notary publics exist, you ask?

If you are thinking of buying a new car, getting a loan for a new house, or setting up your will, the documents you will need to sign may require notarization.

The same can be said for a power of attorney, an affidavit, or any other document that is of great importance.

The full list of notary facts duties, and qualifications is large, but here are the highlights:

  • To become a notary in Michigan, one must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the state, read and write in the English language, and have no criminal convictions.
  • Aside from notarizations, notarial acts in Michigan may include taking acknowledgements and administering oaths.
  • A notary public in Michigan is not allowed to charge you more than $10 per notarial act.
  • If a notary public is not a licensed attorney, they must include the following statement in their documents and advertisements: “I am not an attorney and have no authority to give advice on immigration or other legal matters”.
  • Notaries in Michigan are authorized to perform notarial acts for up to seven years, but no less than six.
  • There are currently more than 100,000 licensed notaries in the state of Michigan.

In the United States, most states require a seal (or stamp) for documents to be officially notarized.

Michigan is one of those states where these seals are not required by law. However, you can still request one – and your notary can happily apply it.
