  • In Pennsylvania, a notary can refuse to notarize a signature if they believe the signer lacks legal or mental capacity to make the signature, or if they’re not signing the document of their own free will.
  • A notary must keep a journal, compliant with Pennsylvanian state laws, that records the notarial acts performed and how a signer has been identified.
  • A notary public in Pennsylvania must use an official stamp of the notary. The stamp must include very specific wording, including the phrase “Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”
  • The stamp of the notary must be no higher than 1 inch, and no wider than 3 1/2 inches, with a plain border.
  • An embosser is optional.
