Missouri notary publics can help you verify your identity and signature on important documents in order to prove their validity.

Although the notarial process is relatively similar across the country, each state does have its own unique rules regarding what notaries can and cannot do. Here’s what you need to know about notary publics in Missouri:

Notary Agent’s Duties

Missouri Mobile Notaries

In the state of Missouri:

  • Notaries are appointed to their position for a term of four years, unless they are cited for an infraction and stripped of their commission.
  • Notaries must renew their commission every four years if they wish to continue acting in a notarial capacity.

As a Missouri notary public, an individual can:

  • Verify signatures on documents
  • Create certified copies of documents
  • Hear oaths or vows

In the process of performing these tasks, the notary must first verify your identity using your driver’s license, passport or other government-issued photo identification. Whichever form of identification you choose to use, it will need to be currently valid and not expired.

The purpose of this verification is to prove that you are the person you say you are, as well as the person who is expected to be signing the document.

Once you sign your document or speak your vow, the notary will apply their ink stamp or embossed seal to the document to prove that it has been verified. The notary will also record the exchange in their ledger for posterity.

Once you have paid a small fee, not to exceed $5, the transaction is complete and your document is verified.

That’s really all there is to it.

The entire process shouldn’t take more than about half an hour for a single document, though it may take longer if you have several items you need notarized.
